Emma Raducanu Makes Key Schedule Change to Start 2026 Season at United Cup

Emma Raducanu has decided to make a change to her early 2026 tennis schedule, opting to begin her new season at the United Cup instead of returning to the ASB Classic in Auckland. The world No. 29 will now represent Great Britain in the mixed-team competition, which runs from January 2–11.
Over the past two years, Raducanu opened her season at the WTA 250 event in Auckland. She also planned to compete there at the start of 2025 but had to withdraw shortly after arriving due to a back injury. After three consecutive years of signing up for the tournament, the 22-year-old Brit has decided it’s time for a new beginning.
This time, she’ll take part in the United Cup, marking her first-ever appearance at the event. Great Britain will field a strong lineup, with ATP world No. 11 Jack Draper also confirmed to play.
> “To see both Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu representing Great Britain for the first time adds real star power to this year’s event,” said United Cup tournament director Stephen Farrow.

Raducanu Excited for United Cup Debut
Raducanu expressed her excitement about the new experience and the chance to represent her country in a team setting.
> “I’m honored to make my United Cup debut in January. Playing for Team GB with my teammates is a unique opportunity and something I’m really looking forward to,” she said. “It’s great to experience a new format on tour, represent my country, and spend a couple of extra weeks in Australia.”

Fans will be eager to see if Raducanu and Draper pair up for mixed doubles, a potential partnership that could draw plenty of attention at the tournament.
Raducanu wrapped up her 2025 season in mid-October, cutting it short due to illness and lingering physical issues. Her final appearance of the year came at the Ningbo Open, where she suffered a first-round defeat to Zhu Lin.
With a fresh start and a new team format to open 2026, Raducanu will be aiming to build momentum early in the season and return to top form ahead of the Australian Open.
